Resolve Catalog File Corruption in Mac OS X

Mac Operating system is comprises of many important features and also powerful hard disk that are divided in to volumes. Each volume comprises of file treads and directories threads and in this entire information are organized in catalog file structure as B* tree. The available Catalog files is one of the system file and the HFS i.e. Hierarchial File System's file manager. These are used to store detail concerning file and directory hierarchy.

In this the B tree structure includes 4 different nodes like: header, leaf, index and map. These nodes assigns specific numbers too that is known as CNID, this is helpful to locate and mount the system that navigates through nodes and structure. With this it becomes possible to find out the directory information.

But sometimes these trees and its nodes starts encountering the problem and due to this it stops functioning properly. In this situation user encounter below mentioned error message:

“Verifying volume
Checking HFS Plus volume.
Invalid record count
Invalid record count
Catalog file entry not found for extent
The volume needs to be repaired.”

These files are quiet susceptible to corruption due to many reasons like:

  • Virus attack
  • Accidental disk formatting
  • Operating System corruption
  • Volume header corruption
  • Master directory block corruption
  • Partition table corruption
  • Disk initialization

Due to this reason entire stored data becomes inaccessible and worst happens when data loss situation arises. This happens when user tries to access to volumes or want to check its integrity with disk utility, to repair the problem. After that user might also encounter error message:

“Invalid B-tree node Size”

Disk utility fails to repair Catalog file error, then in this situation FSCK repair in single mode is preferable. In case this also fails then user will have to format the system doing this user would be able to perform Mac catalog file corruption recovery. Though doing this will delete entire stored data. So to restore the deleted data back user can try third party Mac Data Recovery Software. This software has powerful algorithm that performs advanced scanning and then restores entire deleted data in a safe and secure location.

In restore files from damaged, corrupt, formatted and inaccessible Mac volumes with much ease & efficiency as also supports different Macintosh OS X viz. 10.4, 10.5, 10.6 and 10.7.
