How to recover damaged or lost work of final cut pro from hard drive? ?

Hello everyone, I am using Final Cut Pro (FCP) in my Mac having G4 400MHz running OS X 3.5. Recently I have saved my newest project file edit to a Western Digital 120 GB Firewire/USB 2.0 hard drive. After editing my project on FCP constantly for few hours the FCP disc damaged and crashed in hard drive . When I attempted to open the project file it has thrown an error message saying – “Cannot open project file”. When I checked the hard drive it displayed the size of the project file as 0 KB. On checking the auto save vault the same 0KB file is displaying with some DAT file which when I tried to open is giving the same warning message.

I don\'t know what to do as I really want to replicate my lost work on FCP. Please help. Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

Since you are using an external hard drive, this will surely bite you if you don\'t change your bad habit. Not getting my point? Let me explain. It is always recommended to mount your external drive before shutting down especially while working with FCP. You can shut down with out mounting it but one day that little jolt will surely corrupt your project files stored in it as happened in your case. Un-mounting the external drive will drag your to the trash.

So, it is always recommended to upload a copy of FCP project file to a safe file daily as a backup, so that if any mishappenings occur like final cut fro disc damaged and crashed in hard drive then at least you have backup to overcome the crash. Since you haven\'t backed up your last work, so restoration has no meaning in this circumstance. The only way left is retrieving the lost data by using Mac Data Recovery software which will effectively salvage all the data of FCP to a safe and secure location which can be used later. I hope this will surely help you to resolve your issue.

All the best!
